In the spirit of sharing and giving, the management team and Allstars (employees) of AirAsia X Berhad visited Rohingya Community School in Kampung Cheras Baru, here earlier today to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with 50 Rohingya refugee schoolchildren.

Led by AirAsia X Chief Executive Officer Benyamin Ismail, more than 20 management team members and Allstars treated the schoolchildren aged between three and 14 years old to an afternoon of good food and entertainment.

The team was brought to a tour of the three-storey rented shop lot where the community school has been operating since its inception in 2009. Rohingya Community School is run by a humanitarian non-governmental organisation, the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA).

After a brief welcoming ceremony, Benyamin presented hampers to the school, which was represented by MRA secretary general Dr Shahrizal Azwan Samsudin to mark the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Benyamin then distributed hampers and "duit raya" packets to the children.

Right after that, laughter and music filled the air as AirAsia Fun team presented a special performance of Hari Raya songs to entertain the children, followed by a welcoming song by the children for the AirAsia X team before they spent time playing fun games and activities. The children were later treated to a hearty lunch of traditional Raya cuisine.

Benyamin said, "It's a huge satisfaction to put a smile on these children and to witness the children enjoying the games and interacting with our team. We are just doing our bit to bring some joy to the Rohingya children during the festivity.

"We would also take the opportunity to convey our Hari Raya Aidilfitri wishes to Rohingya community in Malaysia and those living in other countries. We hope for the best for the children and pray for them that they will have better lives ahead."

Rohingya Community School is fully managed by the MRA with five full time school teachers headed by a headmaster. The schoolchildren come from some 33 Rohingya refugee families from various settlements in Kampung Cheras Baru in the vicinity area. The school offers access to basic education from preschool to primary school level to prepare the displaced children to develop knowledge, skills, talents and personality to take on challenges in today's world.

Among the lessons carried out are Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Science and co-curriculum such as arts classes and Islamic education. Formal education is applied as soon as possible so that some of the children would be eligible to continue their studies at the tertiary level or at least read well. The continuous running of the school until today is made possible through continuous and generous contributions of donors.
